What to Expect

Our experienced veterinarians perform surgery on dogs and cats – everything from spays and neuters to lump removals and orthopedic surgery. Our experienced surgeons use state-of-the-art procedures and the latest technology. If your pet is in need of surgery, you can expect the following:

  • Dr. Simon or Dr. Stephens will carefully examine your pet and discuss the procedure with you.
  • Tests will be run on your pets blood to make sure their internal organs can properly process the anesthesia.

Surgical procedures are often harder on the worried pet parents than it is on the pet! When you leave your best friend with us, you can rest assured every precaution is taken to ensure their safety and comfort.

Each patient under anesthesia receives the following supportive care:

  • IV catheter
  • IV fluids
  • Heart monitor
  • Respiratory monitor
  • Blood pressure monitor
  • Oxygen level monitor
  • Constant evaluation by a veterinary team member throughout the procedure
  • Heated surgery table
  • Warm, soft recovery area fully monitored by veterinary technicians

Our veterinary surgical staff will meet with you after the procedure to let you know what to expect when you bring your pet home and to advise you how to help him or her heal.

Types of Surgeries at Marina Hills Animal Hospital

Just a few of the many surgeries our veterinarians perform include spay and neuter procedures, orthopedic surgeries, corrective surgeries, lump removal procedures, and dental surgery. Our veterinarians recommend a spay or neuter surgery for all pets that will not be bred, as it can increase the longevity and health of the pet.

Orthopedic surgeries can include a wide range of surgeries that such as mending broken bones, treating hip dysplasia and repairing injured knees. Exploratory surgeries can include lump removals and taking out benign and malignant tumors in an animal for further analysis and diagnosis.

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, the majority of cats and dogs have some kind of dental disease by the time they reach age five. Left untreated, these dental diseases can cause a myriad of health issues up to and including death. In addition to offering regular pet dental care, we conduct dental surgeries to remove those teeth that have become so infected they are past saving. Removing such teeth keeps bacteria from spreading throughout your pet’s system and allows him or her to be happy and healthy longer.
